A branding job in recruitment

Hoop is a recruitment agency based in Cardiff, with six specialist divisions. As a relative newcomer, the agency is ambitious and disruptive, aiming to shake up the recruitment sector and turn it into a kinder and more empathetic industry.

When we first met the Hoop team, they had been going for two years and were growing rapidly. They were quickly establishing a strong reputation, but they needed a new brand identity to better reflect their proposition and take them into their next phase of growth.

We started with analysis, reviewing the local and national recruitment market to establish the business’ point of difference and position. We ran workshops, interviewed their people, their customers and gained an in-depth understanding of the business.

We defined the brand proposition, including a set of values to form a strong foundation to build upon. And through the strategic work, we also developed a ‘Good Together’ positioning, which was derived from the company’s focus on working together (with each other, with clients and with candidates), and their ambition to do good. The visual identity brings this to life, using two hoop shapes (born from the double o in their name) to represent the idea of coming together, of making connections.

It was clear that retaining unique sub-brands for the different divisions was important, but equally important was that these brands would sit comfortably alongside each other and the main Hoop brand.

As well as creating the visual identity, we also developed the brand tone of voice, producing language guidelines and writing copy for their website and communications.

We also designed brand collateral, such as exhibition stands, stationery, brochure and a skin for the new website.

Since the rebrand the business has gone from strength to strength, with 755% growth between 2019 and 2021 and is now firmly established as one of the largest and most successful independent recruitment agencies in Wales.
